Spiritual Counselling

We come to love not by finding a perfect person
but by learning to see an imperfect person perfectly.

Sam Keen

It is my honour to be alongside people as a spiritual counsellor. I hope that through this process we, as people on life’s journey, will come to know deeper joy, peace and wholeness.

The form of counselling I  use is person-centred; with deep listening and the acknowledgement that you as the client have your own answers within you. Spiritual counselling also calls on the healing power of Love for the release of feelings and acknowledges the wisdom within the soul helping the client to discover or rediscover their own reality, their own truth. This deep soul connection allows for healing at all levels; physical, emotional and spiritual.

I work from whatever your belief system is, whether this is from a religious tradition, universal spirituality or core human values around respect, compassion and integrity.

The issues brought to counselling are led by you the client and may range from relationship issues, emotional pain, depression, and bereavement to questions around the meaning and purpose of life and your faith.

As your counsellor, I aim to create as safe and held space as possible and use deep listening without judgement to hold in love the stories of your life. I use gentle questioning, and offer spiritual practices such as silence, meditation, prayer, breathing and visualisation to enable you to discern your truth.

As your counsellor, I hold and honour the perfection in you, seeing you as whole, not defined by your problems.  I am not there to fix you but to accompany you on your path to remembering your own perfection and sacred connection.

Helen’s counselling style is to trust that we have all the answers to our own disharmony within us, and that with gentle encouragement we can find our own way through our dilemmas. Helen gave me the safe space in which to articulate the traumatic journey I had been through over the last few years. I was able to summarize what had happened, and how I felt now in the shell-shocked aftermath. ‘Would you want to go back to being the person you used to be?’ she asked – the key question to make me realize that I had actually come through some profound learning and that there were aspects of myself I was glad had changed. Her summarizing prayer seemed to lay a gentle blessing over whole session – and I felt like a terrible wound had been bathed in healing balm. I had come here feeling that nothing was right – now I felt that nothing, actually, was wrong.

Your task is not to seek for love but merely to seek and find
all the barriers within yourself you have built against it.
